Getting Around Public Transportation in Indonesia.

The difficult thing is to decide which Indonesia travel islands to visit.
Everything depends on the time you have available, as land transport is slow and distance are not always small.

At present there are many flights between islands, at reasonable prices. The boat crosses are practical from Java, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa and Flores, with non-stop connections or at least daily.

So depending on what you're going to visit islands in a given time, you must decide what kind of transportation I choose to move to this country.

We leave general information that might be useful for planning your trip Indonesia.
For details on each island, go to the relevant sections.

The data are based on our trip to Indonesia for four months in 2012.

   LAND TRANSPORT

The roads are generally in good condition. Only when you turn off main routes or go to more remote destinations things worse.
Signage is irregular.

The type of transport varies greatly from one island to another. In general, cheap and slow (10,000 Rp 1 € for an hour of transport). On some routes there are different options, from small old buses to modern air-conditioned buses, European type. In general, buses are quite old but they work.
