JAPAN 8: II Takayama and Shirakawa-go

We got up early to see the two morning markets in Takayama. They consist of stalls and are made from 200 years ago. The farthest was to Jinyamae where farmers Hida selling their fruits and vegetables. Take this opportunity to buy two large apples for 120 yen each. There was not much room in this market so we went immediately to the other, Miyagawa, specializing in crafts and clothing. Nor had many customers do not know whether this market is more geared to tourists who usually come later ...

Then we get to the bus station to book Takayama bus journeys to Shirakawa-go and Kanazawa. Until Shirakawa-go was no problem to get, there are 9 buses a day. The problem was to go from there to Kanazawa, since there are only three buses daily. Therefore we prefer to reserve the bus: at 12:50 h to go to Shirakawa-go (1 hour drive) and has Kanazawa 16:50 (1 hr 15 min). With this combination would have 3 hours to visit Shirakawa-go. The two buses we were worth 3,300 yen per person.

After going through all Takayama to approach the Higashiyama area, consisting of a series of temples connected by a pleasant walk. None of the 13 temples and shrines of Higashiyama 5 is very spectacular, but the walk is worth it. Also, that time there was almost tourists there. The temples we liked most were the Unryu-ji, Daio-ji and Hokke-ji-ji Zenno.

The Souyu-ji was also nice, but what caught our attention was the poster goshuin. Upon entering we were served a very nice woman who we give our goshuin-cho. While waiting for the monk affix the goshuin, she invited us we entered the temple and we saw what we wanted. Then we brought in a tray a couple of glasses of iced coffee that we drank while we waited we sat in the main room. Quite a sample of Japanese hospitality! After a while I brought the goshuin-cho and we reward you with our best "arigato gozaimasu" (in addition to the mandatory 300 yen, of course). It was an experience!

We left the area and returned Higashiyama downtown to see a few temples we had seen us. The first was the Betsuin Takayama, a small temple which is particularly remarkable for its fantastic gateway. In addition to the prayer hall with a golden Buddha, there was a startling display of a woman who lost arms and legs many years ago....
